Ladies ‘of A Certain Age’ Share Topics And Tips
Don’t we live in an amazing age? We know so much more about things these days than ever before, and that includes skin care for mature women.
Part of the problem is that we just don’t think of ourselves as ‘older.’ In our minds we’re still the same smart girls we started out as in our younger days, just more experienced. Unfortunately, our skin is ‘more experienced, ‘ too.
For many of us these new products have appeared at just the right time. That’s the thing about getting older: Our age so often shows up first in how our skin looks. Those fine lines and tiny wrinkles tend to send us rushing to the mirror to check out how our skin looks on hands, faces, neck and even chest.
It used to be that cold cream was about the only thing a woman could use to try to stave off the ravages of time and weather from her face. These days, though, there are not only products, there are even treatments that sound like something out of science fiction. For instance, whoever thought we’d be able to use light to fix our faces? That’s right, thanks to treatments with intense pulsed light, our skin can be repaired for redness, broken capillaries, age spots and even minor sun damage. Women who’ve had the treatment say it’s nearly miraculous the way it restores an even skin tone.
Many of the ladies have been trying all kinds of anti aging skin care products. We even joke that we’ve formed our own consumer products testing panel! Whenever we get together we invariably talk about how well some new product is working. It’s just amazing to us how much research has been done on what it takes to keep skin looking younger, smooth and evenly toned and with a minimum of lines and wrinkles.
Of course, the thing that works best with these products is the same kind of discipline we were taught early on about good skin care: the old ‘cleanse-tone-moisturize’ formula, twice a day. Only now we have so many new products to try, the regimen might be ‘cleanse-tone-moisturize-treat!’ It all depends on how a woman’s skin responds to the products she’s trying, because each woman’s skin reacts differently. The trick is to keep trying products until we find the right combination. It’s a good idea to try a new product for at least six to eight weeks to give it plenty of time to work properly. Otherwise, our skin might become over-sensitive from too many changes over too short a period of time.
Good skin care has become an even more important a part of our health regimen. Some women find it’s even more essential than wearing their favorite beauty perfume.
