Are Spas Overrated?

When anything new is welcomed by society, we often challenge its benefits and question its ability to change our lives. One of the more recent and well accepted additions to our society have been spas. That’s right - spas. Hearing the word instantly leaves images of relaxing, classical music, accompanied by aromatic scents and beautiful individuals wrapped in white towels. And while those images may not be that far off from the real thing, one has to ask, are spas overrated?

Anyone who has been to a spa will certainly tell you that the experience is one that everyone should try. In fact, spas are so popular that a study done in 2006 by the International Spa Association found that 57 million people, or one quarter of American adults, had a trip to the spa. Adults aren’t the only ones enjoying the spa atmosphere, however. The same study found that 4 million teens also visited the spa.

It’s no surprise that spas are so attractive to the public, especially because there are so many different types to choose from that cater to specific groups of people. For example, a day spa is one that works like a salon; you make an appointment and stay for a few hours. Resort spas act as a vacation that centers on going to the spa each day. The advantage to resort spas is that several days at the spa returns you as a new and rejuvenated person. There are even such places as medical spas, which are run by medical professionals looking to treat patients using all-natural means.

There’s no doubt about it; spas are certainly an important part of many people’s lives and these very people would be offended if spas were suggested to be overrated. In fact, spas are much more than quiet places to feel refreshed. Spas have endless health benefits that focus on healthy eating, weight loss regimes, and body cleansing. They offer all-natural ways to treat and heal painful medical conditions and provide relief for pain management. The careful attention that spas pay to the total well-being of an individual leads to a boost in immunity, awareness toward healthy living, and more confidence as a human being.

Another advantage that keeps spas living up to their expectations is the introduction of new technology that people would otherwise not be aware of. For example, some spa treatments use ultrasonic waves, ozone negative ions, and far infrared rays to relieve stress from illness or everyday stressors. This new technology is so effective that you can achieve the same feelings of relief in as little as 5 minutes.

Is a day at the Spa the way to her heart?

The stresses of life take a physical and emotional toll on everyone’s wellbeing. High pressure career holders and stay at home mums, married couples and singles, parents, grandparents, and soon or never-to be’s all need an escape at times. What better way to show her you care than to present her with a day at the spa that suits her unique tastes.

Spas allow us to de-stress, revitalize, and refresh our mind, bodies, and souls, enabling us to enter into an emotionally healthy state. A day at the spa will leave her feeling good about herself, the most important step in dealing with other aspects of life that may not be as comforting.

With medical professionals claiming that nearly 80% of diseases are a direct result of stress, massage, water, and heat therapies are just as much long term investments as they are relaxing activities at a day spa. Massages eliminate muscle stiffness caused by tension leaving her feeling as if her entire body had been jumpstarted. In addition, the physical pressure of the massage is scientifically proven to release endorphins in the brain that make her simply feel happier.

The atmosphere of a bubble bath or whirlpool is relaxing enough, but the warm, flowing water has biological effects that can increase calming feelings as well. The warm water dilates the blood vessels allowing for increased circulation, and ultimately more oxygen and nutrients flowing throughout her body. The caressing movement of the water as it reduces pain and stiffness from the body will put her in a relaxed state of mind that will carry with her after she emerges from the bath.

Steamy saunas are ideal heat therapy that will improve her mental and physical health. Sitting in a sauna for a mere 15 minutes can remove more waste from the body through pores than the kidney can in a full 24 hours. With the abundance of perfumes, make-ups, and lotions applied daily, sweating it out is the most effective method to healthier, glowing skin. The rise in body temperature increases the metabolism causing positive affects on thyroid and adrenal glands, as well as the ovaries and other reproductive organs. Many women even report an increase in sex drive after such heat therapies.

The first step to winning over any woman’s heart is to prove to her that you care about her wellbeing. A day trip to the spa surely exhibits such an emotion. Whether you are embarking on a new journey with this woman, or rekindling an established flame, a spa day will eliminate her outside stress, leave her feeling confident and refreshed, and give her a renewed sense of appreciation for herself and you.
